3. The stages of Umrah — step by step

This is the first stage of Umrah. You enter into a state of sanctification at the Miqat, a demarcated area before entering Mecca.

How ?

  1. Prepare yourself physically: ablutions, major cleansing (ghusl), hair removal, nail cutting
  2. Get dressed :
    • Men: 2 unsewn pieces (Izar and Rida)
    • Women: simple and covering clothing, without niqab or gloves
  3. Make your intention :

O Allah, I respond to You with Umrah
May Allah bless you with Umrah
“O Allah, I respond to your call with Umrah.”

  1. Start watching TV :

Here I am, O God, here I am. Here I am, you have no partner, here I am. Indeed, all praise and blessings are yours, and the kingdom, you have no partner.
Thank God for you, thank God for the share.
“Here I am, O Allah, here I am! You have no partner, here I am! To You belongs the praise, the blessing, and the dominion. You have no partner.”

Mullabbi Council: prepare an invocation sheet with Mullabbi or have a guide accompany you.

2. Tawaf — Circling around the Kaaba

Close view of the golden door of the Kaaba in Makkah during Umrah

It’s one of the most powerful moments. You do7 tours around the Kaaba in a counterclockwise direction.

What you need to know:

  • Start each round at the black stone : dis « In the name of God, God is Great » (Bismillah, Allahu akbar)
  • You must be in a state of purification (wudu)
  • You can invoke Allah, read verses or make personal du’as

Invocation between the Yemeni corner and the black stone:

Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
Our Lord, give us goodness in this world and goodness in the Hereafter.
“O our Lord! Grant us a good portion in this world and a good portion in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”

The different stages for doing Tawaf:

Depending on your profile and the number of people, you can choose between several levels of the Masjid al-Haram:

  • Ground floor :
Closest to the Kaaba, the experience is very intense, but it is often crowded.
  • 1st floor :
Perfect for families with children, seniors, or those who prefer a slower pace. Fewer crowds, wider access.
  • Roof (upper level) :
This level is reserved for electric cars (scooters or motorized wheelchairs), which can be rented directly on site or via the terminals. It is particularly suitable for people who have difficulty walking or are disabled.

Right after your Tawaf, head towards the Station of Ibrahim (Maqam Ibrahim) to perform two rak‘ahs.

And take the standing place of Abraham as a place of prayer.
May God bless my brother Ibrahim, may God bless him
“And take the station of Ibrahim as your place of prayer.”

After this prayer, drink Zamzam water and make this invocation:

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and a cure for every illness.
May Allah bless you with the knowledge of the Prophet, the guide to the right path, and the best of companions.
“O Allah! Grant me beneficial knowledge, abundant sustenance, and a cure for every disease.”

4. Sa’i — round trip between Safa and Marwa

At the beginning of the Sa’i (on Safa), say:

Indeed, As-Safa and Al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. I will begin with what Allah began with.
Inna as-Safa wa-l-Marwata min sha’a’iri-llah, abda’u bima bada’ Allahu bihi
“Safa and Marwa are among the rites of Allah. I begin with what Allah has mentioned first.”

Invocation to be said on Safa and Marwa (3 times while raising the hands):

There is no god but Allah, He is One, without partner. His is the kingdom and His is the praise, and He is over all things omnipotent. There is no god but Allah, He fulfilled His promise, aided His servant, and defeated the clans alone.
“There is no god but Allah, Alone, without partner. To Him belongs the dominion, to Him is praise, and He is Able to do all things. He has fulfilled His promise, helped His servant, and routed the confederates with Him alone.”
